Aya Ueto, Japanese actress, singer and model
I haven’t drawn anything in over a year (not since before I went to Japan), so I know it’s not very good - and there are a lot of mistakes in this - but I’m still trying to get back into my routines (school and life are keeping me so busy I barely have any time to draw at all), and it seems I’ve completely forgotten how to draw too, so…
By the way: this is the first drawing ever to look COMPLETELY different on my notebook screen (which is a 10”) and my laptop (17”). On my notebook this drawing looks really really dark (I can barely seen any details or shades in it), and insanely grainy, but it doesn’t appear so on my wider screen (or in real life)… sooo… I have no idea why… Anyway, I just really hope it’s my notebook that’s dying, so you all don’t see it the same way as I do on here (dark and grainy)...? If you do, please let me know…
OBS: This is NOT edited in some photo-software program. This is a pure scan of the original drawing -it's only worsened by my stupid scanner- and it’s completely touch-free. I really hate when people automatically assume I've used Photoshop (or a similar program) to edit the details and contrast of my drawings. Just a little notion before anyone asks.

Medium; sketching pencils. Time; forever and a day. Size; A4 (8.3 inches × 11.7 inches).
Who am I to judge a piece of work better than mine and exceptional, but I just wanted to take the time to praise this beautifully drawn artwork, I think the hair looks great with light and dark tones and all in between, proportions are great, shadings also excellent with light medium and dark areas done excellently, I really like the detail in the lips, cant find a fault with this if I tried, I noticed you have said there are faults, but I cant see them, Overall very well done with this piece, keep it up
Very nice. Your first drawing is better than mine was. I took a 20 year break and drew the same image of Ueto Aya, but it was no way as good as yours is. mine was a 24x 48 inch in graphite and took 8 to 11 hours (I drew it twice / first one I messed up the hair by trying to do it in ink to get the darkest blacks). Even though yours is a scan, it has very good tonal range from the original. Which is hard for me since the original was in color and translating it into grey scale can be difficult. I've taken my time trying to get back into this again because I felt I couldn't reproduce what I saw, but after taking some pysch classes I realize that is what make an artist. It is our interpretation, vision of what we see that give emphasis to our emotional state that touches others and produces art. In fact, I'm looking at getting back into art because I no longer think of it as an exact reproduction skill, but as an interpretation of emotional intelligence that touches ourselves and others. For there is no such thing as perfection, only our in ability to understand that our differences is what makes perfection. Because if everything was the same their would be no art. I wish you the best at obtaining your inner emotional expressions into your art. It took me all of my 47 years to figure out that it is what you feel and express that matters and not external approval.
